Depending on your arrival time, soak up the sun on the heavenly golden beaches of Negombo, a vibrant fishing town conveniently close to the airport.
Begin your day with a visit to Sigiriya, with an exciting stop at the captivating Polonnaruwa en route. Polonnaruwa, the second capital of Sri Lanka following the decline of Anuradhapura in 993, boasts a rich history including Brahmanic monuments built by the Cholas and the remarkable garden-city crafted by King Parakramabahu I in the 12th century.
In the evening, marvel at the wonders of Sigiriya, a UNESCO World Heritage Site renowned for its awe-inspiring beauty. Enter through the iconic Lion’s Mouth, though only the giant paws of the lion remain today. This magnificent structure, believed to be over a millennium old, was conceived and constructed by King Kashyapa during his 18-year reign. If time permits, venture to the Golden Cave Temple at Dambulla to complete your day of exploration.
Explore the heart of Sri Lanka: Kandy. Originally influenced by the Portuguese as ‘Candea,’ Kandy is now the second largest city in the central region and serves as the capital of the country’s Central Province.
